Het feest van de platte cake (Stefanie Claes)

2010

once there was an explosing
then they made a coffin covering that explosion
it looked like a flat cake
with holes in it
probably makes everybody sick

everybody has a monologue *

Het Feest van de Platte Cake (celebration of the flat cake) puts trepidation about death at the centre and tries to turn it into a celebration. The Chernobyl nuclear disaster symbolises 'the disaster'. It is the starting point of a performance about the impossibility of making death a celebration.

* and that monologue I talked about in the beginning with that illness, that was a monologue about how man is sophisticated only in evil and how simple and responsive he is in simple words of love. That was a monologue about poetic bluster. About cancer in a moonscape, but phrased in such a way that you don't get it.
